The Medicine of Rest

“A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving.”
— Lao Tzu
Greetings to all my precious people!!
In the thick of summer, I want to make the case for something we’re strangely bad at: rest. Real rest. The kind with no agenda and no arrival time.
We live as though rest must be earned — as though we have to spend ourselves all the way down before we’re allowed to stop. But Chinese Medicine sees it differently. Rest isn’t the reward for depletion; it’s how we prevent depletion in the first place. The whole system runs on the balance of Yin and Yang — Yin being rest, stillness, receptivity; Yang being activity, drive, output. A culture like ours runs almost entirely on Yang, and then wonders why it’s so tired. A true rest — even a small one — is a deliberate return to Yin, and it’s how the body restores balance. continue reading
You Are The Magic

“Maybe the most important teaching is to lighten up and relax.”
— Pema Chödrön
Greetings to all my precious people!!
We are living in interesting times. For ourselves, our country, the world — there’s rarely a clean, clear signal about what’s beginning and what’s ending. We live in the middle of things, slipping between past, present, and future, partly in harmony and often in confusion, reminded that two opposing things can be true at once. Shift is constant. The emotional clarity we long for can feel just out of reach. continue reading
We Mother Each Other

“I can promise you that women working together –
linked, informed, and educated –
can bring peace and prosperity to this forsaken planet.”
~~ Isabel Allende
Greetings to all my precious people!!
We’ve spent the month of June exploring:
June 5: Taking up space (reclaiming the belonging mother’s body first taught)
June 12: Finding your voice (speaking from the body mother gave you)
June 19: Healing the mother wound (breaking the lineage pattern)
And now, the final piece: We are the mothers now.
Not just to our children (if we have them). But to each other. continue reading
The Mother Wound

“The mother wound isn’t about a mother’s love.
It’s about a mother’s capacity.
And healing it is how we honor her by
becoming what she couldn’t be –
not because she failed,
but because she was doing her best with what she had.”
~~ Adapted from Attachment Theory
Greetings to all my precious people,
I want to talk about something tender today.
Not with blame. Not with anger. With deep, fierce compassion.
Because I’ve been sitting with this: The relationship between you and your mother’s body is the relationship you have with your own body.
And if that relationship is wounded, it’s not because your mother didn’t love you. It’s because she couldn’t emotionally attune to you in the way your nervous system needed.
And that matters. Not as blame. As context for healing. continue reading
Finding Your Voice

“There is no greater agony than
bearing an untold story inside you.”
~~ Maya Angelou
Greetings to all my precious people!
Last month on Mother’s Day, I wrote about the first voice you ever heard: your mother’s voice.
Today, I’m writing about the voice she gave you. Not just the sound of your voice (though that’s part of it). But the POWER of your voice. The capacity to name what you see, speak what you know, call things by their true names, say NO and mean it, say YES and claim it, take up sonic space in the world.
Your mother gave you this. Through her body. Through her voice teaching you language. Through the vocal cords she grew inside you.
And then—over years of conditioning—you learned to silence it. continue reading
