Dr. Kathy Casey, Clinic Director
DACM, L.Ac., C.Ht.
Kathy Casey has been supporting the health and wellness of the Sound Shore community since 2010. Her passion for the ancient healing arts was ignited 40 years ago after being influenced by the great writers of the 1880s Transcendentalist movement and then being introduced to Taoist philosophy. “Tao” translates into ‘path’ or ‘way’ and Taoist belief is based on the idea that there is a natural order, a “way of heaven” and it can be known by living in harmony with nature and the order of the Universe. Combining curiosity and fascination with the interconnections of how health can be maintained and how illness occurs, a deep dive into the world of body-mind medicine has been her ongoing pursuit even up until today. Kathy first experienced acupuncture while living in San Francisco and was amazed to have ongoing digestive and female health symptoms alleviated. She vowed to one day practice and share the medicine that helped her heal. Kathy is passionate about introducing newcomers to the gentle, effective therapies within the branches of the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is dedicated to promoting a respectful, integrated approach to health and wellness.
Kathy is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, a 2010 graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC. A licensed acupuncturist in New York and Connecticut, and a nationally board-certified herbalist, she is also a Certified Hypnotherapist, accredited since 1992, and a member of the International Association of Counselors and Therapists. For the past 35 years, she has been active in hospice volunteering and has extensive training and experience in Therapeutic Touch, an energetic healing modality developed in the 1970s through the pioneering work of Dolores Krieger, Ph.D., RN, a professor of Nursing at New York University, in collaboration with Dora Kunz, a natural healer. Kathy has practiced Mindful Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) techniques for the past 15 years and is a great supporter of mindfulness meditation for daily living. Additionally, Kathy has trained as an empath, medium, and medical intuitive with numerous shamans and teachers over the years, and continues to use the connections to the Lifeforce as yet another tool to support the patient’s healing journey. Lastly, the ongoing personal practices of qi gong, tai chi, yoga and breathwork help to manifest presence and focus in her healing work.
Kathy has a special interest in women’s reproductive health, digestive disorders, stress management, and mental and emotional health. Her patient-centered clinical practice focuses on helping patients recover health and maintain wellness with preventative care. Kathy uses acupuncture, nutritional therapy, mindfulness, herbal medicine, journaling, and hypnotherapy to promote and support women’s health at all stages of life. Her healing practice is guided by the inspired notion of “Anam Cara,” translated from Irish Gaelic, combining the words ‘anam’ meaning soul and ‘cara’ meaning friend. This Irish spirit of friendship and connection refers to a teacher, companion, or spiritual guide along the earth life journey and infuses the healing space with a sense of comfort and timeless recognition that supports the practitioner as well as the patient. The integration of body, mind, and spirit, along with the acknowledgment of the interdependence of all three components is the fundamental approach for Kathy’s work, as illustrated in the logo for Touchstone Acupuncture.
