A nourishing, slightly sweet breakfast designed to fortify the Spleen, warm Yang, and moisten dryness — ideal for cold, dry November mornings.
In TCM, millet strengthens digestion, calms restlessness, and nourishes Yin. Chestnuts are sweet and warm, strengthening Kidneys and Spleen while dispelling cold.
Nutritionally, millet is a gluten-free whole grain rich in magnesium and B-vitamins, while chestnuts provide vitamin C, fiber, and slow-digesting carbohydrates for steady energy.
Ingredients (Serves 2):
- ½ cup millet, rinsed
- 4–5 cooked chestnuts, chopped
- 1½ cups water
- 1 tablespoon goji berries
- 1 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:

- Reduce heat, add chestnuts and goji berries.
- Simmer covered 15 minutes until soft and porridge-like.
- Stir in ghee or coconut oil and cinnamon before serving.
Modifications:
- Vegan: Use coconut oil
- Protein Boost: Add hemp seeds
