Summer Rice Paper Rolls with Herbs & Avocado Recipe

These Summer Rice Paper Rolls with Herbs & Avocado are a vibrant, cooling dish inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles that support balance, ease tension, and clear excess heat—especially during warmer seasons. With crisp vegetables, fresh herbs, and creamy avocado wrapped in delicate rice paper, this dish is as refreshing as it is therapeutic, offering both physical nourishment and energetic harmony.

In TCM, summer is associated with heat, active Liver Qi, and the potential for dampness accumulation, especially in hot, humid climates. These rolls address all three. Avocado is prized for its Yin-nourishing and heat-clearing properties, helping to cool the body and replenish fluids. Fresh herbs like mint, basil, and cilantro help invigorate Liver Qi, easing emotional tension and supporting smooth energy flow throughout the body. Cabbage and cucumber are naturally cooling and gently drain dampness, making them ideal for combating internal heaviness or bloating.

From a nutritional standpoint, these rolls are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and healthy fats. Avocado contributes potassium and monounsaturated fats for heart and skin health, while the rainbow of vegetables delivers a variety of vitamins and phytonutrients. Adding protein such as tofu or shrimp transforms this light dish into a complete, satiating meal. The optional dipping sauce with tamari, ginger, and sesame oil adds not only flavor but also digestive support, particularly from the warming, Qi-invigorating properties of ginger.

Gluten-free and easily adaptable for vegan or protein-rich diets, this meal is ideal for warm days when the body craves something light yet nourishing. It’s a delicious way to stay cool, energized, and in flow with the season.
