“What we do, think, feel, eat, buy and expose ourselves to,
affects our bodies, minds, spirits, and relationships.
From there, we can alter things to improve our lives.”
— Dr. Claudia Welch
Greetings to all my precious people!
Before we had a body of our own, we lived inside our mother’s body.
Her heartbeat was our first rhythm.
Her breath was our first oxygen.
Her blood was our first nourishment.
The body-mind connection isn’t something we need to learn. It’s something we’re BORN knowing. Because the first body we ever experienced taught us: Bodies are not separate from life. Bodies ARE life.
Western medicine taught us to separate:
Body from mind.
Physical from emotional.
Symptoms from soul.
Matter from spirit.
But what if that separation was always an illusion?
What if body-mind is ONE system, always has been, and the division we created is what keeps us exiled from home?
What Western Medicine Misses
I love Western medicine. I really do.
I grew up watching my physician Dad tend to people and support them through their health journeys.
When you need antibiotics for an infection, surgery for a broken bone, emergency intervention for a heart attack—Western medicine saves lives.
But here’s what it often misses:
The WHOLENESS of the human being.
Western medicine excels at:
- Identifying disease (labs, imaging, diagnosis)
- Treating acute conditions (infection, trauma, emergency)
- Targeting specific pathology (this drug for this symptom)
But it struggles with:
- Chronic conditions (exhaustion, pain, autoimmune, hormonal imbalance)
- Prevention (maintaining health before disease manifests)
- The relationship between emotions, stress, lifestyle, relationships, and physical symptoms
- WHY the body is speaking (not just what it’s saying)
Because it sees body and mind as separate.
Treat the body with medication. Send the mind to therapy.
Never the two shall meet.
Think about it:
Your first experience of being alive was INSIDE a body. Not separate from it. Not thinking about it. Living AS body. Your mother’s body taught you: safety (womb as sanctuary), nourishment (umbilical connection), rhythm (heartbeat, breath, movement), wholeness (no separation). You knew this once. Before culture taught you otherwise. The work of integration is REMEMBERING what your mother’s body already taught you.
What Eastern Medicine Knows
Dr. Claudia Welch is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine AND an Ayurvedic practitioner.
She spent decades studying:
- Chinese Medicine (5,000 years of understanding body as energy system)
- Ayurveda (India’s complete medical science, “the science of life”)
- Western physiology (how the physical body works)
And here’s what she teaches:
You cannot separate body from mind from spirit from relationship from environment.
They are ONE LIVING SYSTEM.
When you:
- Think stressful thoughts → cortisol rises → digestion shuts down → gut symptoms appear
- Suppress anger → Liver Qi stagnates → PMS intensifies → headaches emerge
- Live against your natural rhythms → adrenals exhaust → hormones dysregulate → cycles go haywire
- Disconnect from community → loneliness affects immune function → inflammation increases → chronic illness develops
You see?
Body-mind is not two things. It’s ONE.
And when Western medicine treats ONLY the body (medication for the symptom), it misses WHY the body is creating the symptom in the first place.
How Chinese Medicine Sees You
In Chinese Medicine, you are not a collection of separate parts.
You are a flow of QI (energy/life force) through interconnected systems:
Five Elements:
- Wood (Liver, Gallbladder) = planning, vision, flexibility, anger when stuck
- Fire (Heart, Small Intestine) = joy, connection, spirit housed in Heart
- Earth (Spleen, Stomach) = nourishment, grounding, worry when depleted
- Metal (Lung, Large Intestine) = boundaries, letting go, grief when holding
- Water (Kidney, Bladder) = deep reserves, willpower, fear when exhausted
When Qi flows smoothly → health.
When Qi gets stuck, depleted, or excessive → symptoms.
But here’s the key: Emotions ARE Qi. Thoughts ARE Qi. Physical sensations ARE Qi.
They’re not separate. They’re all expressions of the same living system.
How Ayurveda Sees You
Ayurveda (India’s traditional medicine) teaches:
You are a unique combination of elements (doshas) influenced by:
- What you eat
- How you move
- What you think
- How you sleep
- Who you’re with
- What season it is
- What time of day
- What stage of life
Everything affects everything.
Your hormones aren’t separate from your emotions.
Your digestion isn’t separate from your stress level.
Your cycles aren’t separate from your relationships.
Your symptoms aren’t separate from your soul’s calling.
It’s all ONE SYSTEM responding to how you’re living.
Dr. Welch writes about women’s hormones (Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life) and what she teaches is revolutionary:
Your hormones are not just chemistry. They’re COMMUNICATION.
Communication between:
- Your body and your environment
- Your present and your evolutionary past
- Your physical health and your emotional state
- Your individual system and the larger rhythms (seasons, moon, life stages)
When you balance your life, your hormones balance.
When you honor natural rhythms, your body comes back into coherence.
Not because you took the right supplement.
Because you aligned with the WHOLE system.
The Integration: Body-Mind as ONE Path Home
Here’s what 20 years of practice has taught me:
Women come to me with physical symptoms. But when we investigate, we discover:
The exhaustion is also burnout from living against their truth.
The pain is also unexpressed grief or suppressed anger.
The weight is also protection, a buffer against the world.
The insomnia is also a racing mind that won’t let them rest.
The hormonal chaos is also a life out of alignment with natural rhythms.
Body-mind is speaking AS ONE.
And when we treat ONLY the physical (supplement for this, herb for that), we might get temporary relief.
But sustained wellness requires addressing the WHOLE:
Physical: What does your body need? (nutrition, movement, rest, herbs)
Energetic: Where is Qi stuck, depleted, excessive? (acupuncture, breathwork, movement)
Emotional: What are you feeling but not expressing? (anger, grief, fear, joy)
Mental: What thoughts are you thinking? (stress loops, inner critic, worry)
Relational: Who are you with and how do they affect you? (nourishing vs. depleting)
Spiritual: Are you living in alignment with your soul? (calling, purpose, meaning)
Environmental: What are you exposed to? (toxins, beauty, nature, noise)
All of it. At once. As ONE.
This is what “coming home” means:
Not just healing the body. Aligning the WHOLE system.
Why You’ve Been Homesick
Now you can see it more clearly:
You’ve been homesick because you’ve been living fragmented.
Treating body over here (doctor, supplements, gym)
Treating mind over there (therapy, meditation apps)
Treating spirit somewhere else (weekend retreat, church on Sunday)
Never bringing it all together. Never living as WHOLE.
And your body-mind has been SCREAMING:
“I am not separate parts to be fixed individually. I am ONE LIVING SYSTEM that needs INTEGRATION.”
The homesickness is the ache of fragmentation.
And the way home is WHOLENESS.
What Integration Looks Like in Practice
When women work with me (acupuncture or 1:1 COACH Intensive), here’s what we do:
We address ALL levels simultaneously:
Example: Woman with severe PMS
Physical: Chinese herbs to smooth Liver Qi, regulate hormones
Energetic: Acupuncture to move stuck Qi, calm nervous system
Emotional: Identify what anger/frustration wants to be expressed
Mental: Notice Inner Critic creating stress loops (Tara Mohr)
Relational: Where are boundaries being violated? What needs to change?
Spiritual: Is she living in alignment with her truth? What’s her body trying to say?
Cycle-based: Track luteal phase – what truth emerges monthly that she ignores?
We work with the WHOLE.
Not “here’s a supplement, see you next month.”
But “let’s listen to what your WHOLE system is communicating and align all the levels.”
This is the integration that creates sustained wellness.
The Invitation: Working With the Whole
This is what I offer:
Acupuncture: Working with Qi, bringing body-mind-spirit into alignment through the energy system
1:1 COACH Intensive: Deep dive into ALL levels – physical, emotional, mental, relational, spiritual – integrating East and West, science and soul
We don’t separate:
- What you eat from how you feel
- Your symptoms from your stress
- Your hormones from your relationships
- Your body from your calling
We work with the WHOLE. Because you ARE whole.
Not separate parts needing individual fixes.
One integrated system longing to come HOME to itself.
Are you ready to stop fragmenting and start integrating?
Call the office to schedule your next step on your journey home.
P.S. Body-mind is not two. It never was. The separation is what exiled you from home. Integration is the way back. Will you return to wholeness?
