Stewed Apples with Black Sesame & Red Dates Recipes

This warm, gently spiced breakfast or snack is perfect for chilly November mornings. It nourishes the Yin, strengthens the Spleen, moistens the Lungs, and gently invigorates Blood.

In TCM, apples moisten dryness and benefit the Lungs and Stomach, while black sesame seeds replenish Liver and Kidney Yin and nourish Blood. Red dates (jujubes) are known for tonifying Qi, nourishing Blood, and calming the Shen (Spirit).

Nutritionally, apples provide soluble fiber and polyphenols for gut health and cardiovascular support. Black sesame seeds are rich in calcium, iron, and healthy fats, while red dates offer vitamin C, antioxidants, and adaptogenic benefits.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 4 dried red dates, pitted and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds, toasted
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine apples, red dates, cinnamon, and water. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  2. Cover and cook for 10 minutes until apples soften.
  3. Stir in ghee or coconut oil.
  4. Sprinkle with toasted black sesame seeds before serving.
