“Many people can listen to their cat more intelligently than they can listen to their own despised body. Because they attend to their pet in a cherishing way, it returns their love. Their body, however, may have to let out an earth-shattering scream in order to be heard.”
~~ Marion Woodman
Greetings to all my precious people!!
Your body is screaming.
Maybe not literally. Maybe not yet. But if you’ve been ignoring the whispers – the exhaustion, the weight that won’t budge, the insomnia, the pain, the cycles that feel chaotic, the rage that surfaces before your period – then the scream is building.
Marion Woodman knew this. She spent her life working with women’s bodies and psyches, and she noticed something devastating: We listen to our pets more intelligently than we listen to our own bodies.
We notice when the cat is off. We take the dog to the vet at the first sign of trouble. We cherish them, attend to them, read their signals.
But our own bodies? We despise them. We ignore them. We override them. We demand they perform.
And when they finally scream – via illness, through crisis, or in the midst of a “breakdown,” we’re shocked.
How did this happen? Why didn’t I see it coming?
You did see it coming. Your body told you. You just weren’t listening.
What I’ve Witnessed in 20 Years
I’ve been working with women’s bodies as an acupuncturist and healer for nearly two decades. And here’s what I see, over and over:
Women come to me when their bodies are screaming.
Chronic pain that won’t quit. Fertility struggles. Perimenopausal chaos. Autoimmune flares. Digestive disasters. Anxiety that feels unmanageable. Depression that won’t lift. Insomnia that is chronic.
And when I ask, “How long has this been building?” they always know.
Years. Sometimes decades.
The body was whispering long before it started screaming. But the whispers were inconvenient. The signals interfered with productivity, with caregiving, with being “good.”
So they kept pushing. Kept performing. Kept ignoring.
Until the body said: ENOUGH.
The Despised Body
Why do we despise our bodies?
Because we were taught to.
We learned early:
- Your body is a problem to manage (too fat, too hungry, too tired, too much)
- Your body’s signals are unreliable (don’t trust your gut, you’re being “too emotional”)
- Your body exists to serve others (be attractive, be useful, don’t be a burden)
- Your body should perform without complaint (push through, don’t be weak)
We were never taught to CHERISH our bodies. To attend to them. To listen.
And so we don’t.
We treat our bodies like inconvenient machines that keep breaking down instead of like the wise teachers they are, trying to guide us.
What Your Body Is Trying to Tell You
In Chinese Medicine, we understand that symptoms are information.
Your exhaustion isn’t laziness. It’s your Kidney system saying: “I’m depleted. You’re living off your reserves. RESTORE ME.”
Your weight gain isn’t failure. It’s your Spleen system saying: “I’m not being nourished. You’re stressed, not rested. TEND TO ME.”
Your luteal phase rage isn’t “hormonal irrationality.” It’s your Liver system saying: “Something is stuck. Boundaries need setting. TRUTH WANTS TO BE SPOKEN.”
Your insomnia isn’t random. It’s your Heart system saying: “Your spirit isn’t at home. Something needs to change. LISTEN.”
Your body isn’t malfunctioning. Your body is SPEAKING.
The question is: Are you listening?
Or are you still treating your body like a problem, despising it for not cooperating, demanding it perform while you ignore what it’s trying to tell you?
The Scream Is Optional
Here’s what I want you to know:
The earth-shattering scream is optional.
Yes, some crises are unavoidable. Life happens. Bodies age. Illness arrives.
But the scream that comes from years of ignoring your body’s whispers? That one is preventable.
You can start listening now.
Not when the diagnosis arrives. Not when you hit rock bottom. Not when you’ve exhausted every other option.
Now.
Before the scream. While it’s still a whisper.
What Would Change If You Actually Listened?
Imagine:
What if you listened to your exhaustion instead of medicating it with caffeine and pushing through?
What if you honored your cycle instead of treating it as an inconvenience to override?
What if you trusted your gut feelings instead of dismissing them as irrational?
What if you treated your body with the same cherishing attention you give your pet?
What would change?
Everything.
Your energy would stabilize. Your symptoms would ease. Your body would relax because you’re finally paying attention. You’d make different choices—about food, rest, relationships, work.
You’d stop living against your body and start living FROM it.
This is the work. This is what I do with women, one-on-one.
The Invitation
If your body is whispering – or screaming – and you’re finally ready to listen, I’m here.
I don’t fix you. I’m not going to give you another protocol to follow, another thing to add to your to-do list, another way to force your body into compliance.
I midwife your emergence. I help you learn the language your body is speaking. I witness what wants to be born through your symptoms, your struggles, your screams.
I work with women in many different ways:
Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine: If you want to translate what your body is saying through its symptoms, cycles, and signals. Chinese Medicine sees the body as wise. I help you hear what it’s telling you.
1:1 COACH Intensive: If you’re ready for deeper work – unlearning the despising habit, building body trust, living FROM your wisdom instead of AGAINST it. Not therapy. Not traditional coaching. Midwifing.
Workshop: Beyond the Fix-It Trap (coming soon): In-person gathering. Women witnessing women. Body as the teacher, not the problem. [Details soon]
This is the work that changes everything.
Not because I’m magic. Because you finally start listening to the body you’ve been despising.
And when you listen – when you cherish instead of override, when you attend instead of ignore – your body returns your love.
It stops screaming. It starts guiding. It becomes your wisest teacher.
Are you ready to listen?
Book a call to day and let’s discover how to support your journey home to the original vessel – your miraculous body filled with wisdom and guidance.
P.S. If you want the deeper dive on body wisdom, cycles, and living from Source, read February’s newsletter series (all 4 weeks archived on my website). But if you’re ready to PRACTICE this—to actually work with your body instead of just learning about it—reach out. The whisper is trying to save you from the scream.
“Stop trying to fix your body.
It was never broken.”
